Biography
Karabakhi Muslim notable. As a young man during the August 1905 Shusha violence; later the most prominent Azerbaijani figure in 1918-20 Karabakh. Governor-general of Karabakh under the ADR, he led the March 1920 destruction of the Armenian quarter of Shusha. The arc from his 1905 milieu to 1920 perpetrator role is a structural illustration of how the early-century inter-ethnic violence consolidated armed political identities.
