Armenian-American (Visalia, California). Former ASALA militant; later commander of the Armenian forces of the Martuni front during the First Karabakh War. Killed at Marzili in June 1993. His brother Markar Melkonian published My Brother's Road (2005), an intimate account of Monte's war years that contains some of the most candid Armenian-side admissions about combatant conduct, including a near-attribution of the second-day Khojaly killings to a specific Armenian unit.
