Biography
Italian Christian-Democratic politician (UDC), member of the Italian Chamber of Deputies 2008-13. As a delegate to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe he became the rapporteur for political prisoners in Azerbaijan, then voted to defeat the so-called Strasser Report on the same subject in 2013. Tribunale di Milano convicted him of corruption in January 2021 and sentenced him to 4 years prison and confiscation of EUR 2.39 million identified as proceeds of bribes paid by Azerbaijani parliamentarian Elkhan Suleymanov in 2012-14.
