Friday mosque of Shamakhi, traditionally the oldest mosque in the Caucasus, founded under the Umayyad governor Abu Muslim. Destroyed and rebuilt multiple times after the major earthquakes of 1859 and 1902. Burned by Caucasian Army of the South retreating Bolshevik forces in 1918 (the March 1918 events extended into Shamakhi); restored under Soviet auspices in the 1980s and again after the 2009 restoration.
