Tsitsernavank Monastery
Tsitsernavank is an early medieval Armenian basilica in Lachin district, one of the most important surviving churches in the corridor zone. After the 2020 settlement and subsequent changes around Lachin, it came under Azerbaijani control. The structure has been monitored as intact, but Azerbaijani commentary has often framed such early churches as Caucasian Albanian rather than Armenian. Tsitsernavank is especially vulnerable to reattribution because its early date intersects with the real complexity of Caucasian Albanian and Armenian ecclesiastical history. A careful account can acknowledge that complexity while still preserving the Armenian liturgical, inscriptional and communal history of the site. For displaced Armenians, loss of access turns an intact church into a severed monument.
