Biography
Investigative journalist, formerly bureau chief for Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty in Baku. Best known for reporting on the financial holdings of the Aliyev family. Arrested in December 2014 and sentenced in September 2015 to 7 years and 6 months on charges including tax evasion and abuse of office. Released on probation in May 2016 under international pressure. The European Court of Human Rights found the prosecution violated Articles 8 and 10 of the Convention. She continues to publish from exile.
