Biography
Founder of the Republican Alternative (REAL) party. Arrested February 2013 after travelling to the town of Ismayilli to investigate protests. Imprisoned for over five years on charges the ECHR found pretextual. Subject of the first Article 46(4) infringement-procedure judgment in ECHR history (2019), an unprecedented finding that Azerbaijan failed to comply with a Convention judgment. Released August 2018; conviction quashed April 2020.
