Fortified medieval monastery in northern Armenia close to the Georgian border, with the most complete cycle of medieval Armenian Chalcedonian (Georgian-Orthodox-aligned) frescoes. Survived under Soviet rule as a Georgian-Apostolic-Orthodox-claimed site; the present Armenian Apostolic Church holds it.
