Azerbaijani village cemeteries across Soviet Armenia
Bulk cemetery destruction, 1989-1995.
After the 1988-1991 expulsion of the residual Azerbaijani population of Armenia (~80,000 people), most of the village cemeteries of those communities were ploughed over or stripped of their funerary stones in the early 1990s. Caucasus Heritage Watch estimates several hundred sites affected; the symmetric counterpart of the Julfa cemetery destruction in Nakhichevan.
