Etchmiadzin Cathedral
Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin; Mayr Tachar.
Mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the seat of the Catholicos of All Armenians since 1441 (with interruptions). Founded under Saint Gregory the Illuminator and King Trdat III on the site that gives the cathedral its name (Etchmiadzin: "the Only-Begotten descended"). Considered the oldest cathedral in the world. Inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 together with Zvartnots and the surrounding ecclesiastical complex.
